Yeah, when I was taking generic C/L it did a number on me. Didn’t feel hungry, then felt nauseous. Switching to Rytary seemed to help the nausea. I think PD lessens appetite as well. Then I feel like I have to ā€œtemptā€ myself with junk food. And the usual enjoyment from cooking isn’t there near as much.

I’ve was diagnosed 5 years ago. I started with generic C/L and started gaining weight with the first pill. Switched to Rytary, for other reasons, but I stopped gaining. Stayed the same weight until last Feb when I had a nasty stomach virus. I lost 5lbs - not the recommended way to do it. I was super weak for a month. It seemed like a switch was flipped in my brain. I developed this odd burning taste in my mouth with almost everything I ate. Meat or anything high in protein was the worst. That didn’t help my sudden lack of desire to eat. I’ve made a few modifications, but most days I have to force myself to eat. I’ve lost 10lbs. It’s makes cooking difficult. Last night I made stroganoff with a couple of leftover buffalo steaks. The only thing I could eat was the rice😢

Could that be alpha-gal syndrome?

Yes I lost 20 lbs since starting C/L at first it was due to nausea but now it’s more a general disinterest in food

I checked with my PCP first and he suggested I’d developed an allergy to the foaming agent in toothpaste. I switched and that got rid of the burning. But, I’ve just lost my appetite over the last 6 months. I checked with my MDS in May. He said if switching toothpaste took care of the taste issue, that was good. He’d never heard of this connction with PD. He wants me to monitor the appetite issue and report back at my next appt.

How long have you been on Rytary? Any thoughts on comparisons? It seems the main difference is it lasts longer, my dad is considering bringing it up with his doctor but is nervous of new issues that might arise with changing of medicine.

I have lost my appetite but not sure if it’s from carba/lopa or other med I take for diabetes.

I have been on Rytary for a little over a year. I have tried a lot of the newer meds and this seems to be doing the job the best, but as we all know . there isn’t a cure and we all have different symptoms . I currently take 2 pills every 4 hours 4 times a day still get dizzy and have a hard time with balance but as long as I have my cane with me I can get around without falling or bumping into things .It is very expensive but most of the drugs are,

I don’t know if the meds made me lose weight or just not eating around the timing of the meds

UPDATE-here’s a bizarre twist to my weight loss. I just got back from 4 weeks in Anchorage. I went to escape the summer heat and take a break from caring for my 87 year old father who lives with us. I stayed with friends and mostly ate at home-little changes to diet and routine. My activity level was higher due to cooler weather. Sounds good, right? I gained 5 lbs!!:flushed: I’m blaming it on the altitude. Going from 5k to 200 ft made me heavier :rofl:
