Dystonia in calf muscle

Advice please :slight_smile: What I thought was calf strain is possibly/probably dystonia. It can last for hours and is also leaving my calf quite painful after. I suspect it’s dystonia as I can run and have no problems. Then it hits on a level slow walk or at random times. Today it’s been bad for about 3 hrs so far and has me walking very slowly and carefully.

I’m at the stage where it feels like when this happens I need to use a walking aid/stick to take the pressure off.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what do you guys do? Anyone else here use a walking aid when they need to. It seems to be a very symptomatic day for dystonia - which is probably my worst symptom of yopd.

Oh yes, it is quite painful. In fact, it has moved up to my knee. I had an X-ray to rule out arthritis or something else but nothing. So they think it’s related to Parkinson’s. Waiting to see my Neurologist next week to see if anything can be done. Increased Sinemet in May and that didn’t help. Pain is preventing me from exercising as much as I need.

It makes me limp and my calf muscle feels really tight. Even my general doctor made a comment on it. My research online said that Botox works for some people and several women on my women’s support group said that they had it done and it lasts about 3 months.

My dystonia is up to my front thigh muscles. Wgen it was in my calves it kept pulling me off balance when i tried standing to cook or do anything standing. Then it moved to my knees and it just pulls at the joints. Now it is in my front thigh muscles. I use a walker around the house, i end up using it to hold myself with my arms, which causes shoulder and wrist pain. The thigh muscles are starting to pull on my hip joints.
My MDS told me the sign it is leg dystonia itarts in your feet, toes curl, when you have your feet up your feet will point. Once it moves up from your ankle it will be your calf, then your knees, then move to your front thigh muscles. Then to your glutes.
I have heard DBS is great for dystonia, some recommend botox injections. I take Cyclobenzaprine at night to stop my legs from constantly contracting so i can fall asleep. I have a power recliner and my legs can push it almost on bad days. It wears me out.

I can relate to the progression it’s in my feet, ankles, calves, thighs… what a pain!!
