Hey everyone… so I’ve come to the realization that I’m actually having issues with the freezing of gate. I don’t like it one single bit! I’m also doing that short, stubby kind of walking. I’ve been doing some research on how to fix this, it isn’t dopamine or Dbs, it’s actually doing activity with instability. Thus, hiking is a great way to fix this. However, I need to work on a few things first. I don’t know that the LSVT big program is covered by my insurance. I think I can find enough videos online. I have access to resistance bands, Swiss balls, and other stability, exercise equipment.
All this to say, does anyone have any videos or ideas they’d like to share?
Thanks!
I’m sorry that you’re experiencing a freezing gait. I don’t freeze when I walk, but I do have the classic Parkinson’s shuffle when I’m off my meds. Maybe you can go to physical therapy. That should be covered by insurance.
I recently went to physical therapy, and they taught me some exercises that were created by Power for Parkinson’s. I’ve been doing the exercises and they seem to help. You can find a lot of these exercises on YouTube.
Festinating gait was one of my recent symptoms due to too much medication. It’s annoying AF. We reduced over time and luckily I’m back on track. I also took a pause at times where I knew it was likely to occur and really thought about foot placement.
I recently found https://www.primepd.com/ it’s an online collection of PD exercise video’s. It is subscription base, but I recently found out that many of the Medicare supplimental insurances offer it for free. I found it through AARP United Health Care. If that doesn’t workout, I know I’ve seen a few of these folks videos on YouTube.
