Hi from CT and APDA

Hello!
My name is Holly and I am the Program Director for The American Parkinson’s Disease association (APDA) CT chapter.
I love my job in that I get to create wellness and education events, promoting support groups and helping those impacted by PD. I have facilitated a support group for the past 7 years and enjoy supporting PWP and their families.
Thanks for creating this safe environment for those with PD to share and gain support

Hi Holly, welcome the forum! It’s great to have you here. I’m just curious, from your perspective is there a significant YOPD population in CT?

Hi Mike-
Statistics say 10% of PWP are young onset. So with aproximately 12,000 PWP in CT- that means there are over 1,000.
I know a large handful in the state of CT but think many are not participating in support groups/events.
There is one young onset support group in Vernon and the New Cannan area has a good amount of young onset folks who participate.

Holly! You’re everywhere! Me too, I guess. We need to talk soon. Also, I’m in the YOPD meeting in Vernon, I’d love to see new people there.

Hi Anne, From what I can see there isn’t a an APDA chapter in NC so I don’t have any contacts in that area with regards to resources for PWP and YO. There is a great YOPD convention that the Northwest APDA chapter is hosting in Seattle, I sent an email to them to see if the convention will be available for those who want to join virtually. Its in October so I will keep you posted if I hear something.
