Intro to me, Cynthia!

Hey, everyone! Some of you know me from TikTok and our Sunday evening zoom chat. I’m 62, and I was formally diagnosed with Parkinson’s in January 2019. Before that, doctors told me I had essential tremor, and that I shouldn’t worry. Yeah, not so much! I’m divorced, have a 30 year old son and DIL in Minneapolis, and have an 11 month old puppy named Breck.

In 2021, I had deep brain stimulation surgery. Fortunately, my surgeon was one of the best– I have to brag on him! His brother is a pediatric neurosurgeon, all his uncles, and father were neurosurgeons, and his grand uncle is considered the father of Neurosurgery! So I was in pretty good hands. My braindoc (what I call my movement disorder specialist, is really good at programming these things. Right now I’m taking no medication and have no issues with tremors.

The issue I do have is disconnect between my left and right side. Not quite sure how to solve that, but I have an appointment in September and we’ll go over it. And sleep - let’s not even go there!

I had another post with all the things I love to do, hiking, camping, art, music, yada yada yada!

So that’s a very simple intro to me!

Hi Cynthia! Welcome! That’s fantastic that you are taking no medication and having no tremors. I have an appointment with a new MDS in a couple weeks. I’m looking to be assessed for DBS to see if I’m a good candidate and to see if it’s the right time for me.

What kind of dog is your puppy? I have a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever. Her name is Willow. Sometimes I call her my Parkinson’s dog because I got her right after I was diagnosed.Lol. She’s a handful but she’s very sweet and loving and super cute!

Hi Cynthia. Good to meet you. I’m interested in the impact of your DBS as it sounds like its really worked for you. Does it improve all PD symptoms or just the Motor things like Tremor and Dystonia?
