Medication refill issue

In December, I changed Neurologists and hospitals. My old Neurologist was male and a general one. The new one is female and is a movement specialist. When I went to my appointment with her she added the Sinemet ER to bedtime in hope that it would help my pain as I was taking the regular Sinemet last dose at 7 pm and it was wearing off before bed causing me to lose sleep from pain and other symptoms. She didn’t mention changing anything else so I assumed that when I was running low on what I had she would call in the prescriptions then because insurance won’t allow you to fill them early. Well I am running low so I reached out to her office and requested refills using the online portal. I got a response from her nurse stating that she couldn’t refill my request because the doctor didn’t prescribe it. Well no crap she didn’t originally prescribe it and I mentioned that I switched Neurologists that I needed this new one to call this in. I was told that I needed to go back to my old Neurologist to have him do it. I told the nurse that eventually this doctor needs to do this because my insurance won’t cover 2 Neurologists nor should I need to see 2. Am I the only one who has had this issue? I thought switching doctors to one who was more specialized would be best but now I am second guessing my decision. I need my medication and we all know what can happen when we don’t get them timely. I feel like I am getting the run around.

That doesn’t sound right. I’d call the office directly and ask to speak to the office manager.

I have run into this very same issue with one of my doctor switches. I moved around a lot during my first four years of diagnosis. I had one doctor tell the pharmacy that see didn’t recognize me as a patient yet I was receiving a prescription from her that the pharmacy also filled. Frustrated the pharmacy as well as me. Called and found another doctor the next day.
I found that the best thing to do is when seeing a new doctor for the first time is to have them give you a new prescription for every medication that you need. The pharmacy will sort out the medications. Sometimes they can’t fill because the 30 day laps but when you are eligible you will be able to fill it with the new doctors prescription without missing a dose.

The nurse had to have known that is what you are talking about. Honestly once you were talking about starting a new med the new neurologist orcthe nurse should expect to start new prescriptions for all the meds the pevious neurologist had you on.
And if she wasnt comfortable with a med the previous doctor had you on that can he discussed at the next appointment. The nurse should’ve just left a message for the doctor. You and the doctor went over your meds so she knows what you are taking. That is vert frustrating.

I agree and next time I see her I am going to express my disappointment both on how it was handled and the information you provided with the statin. Someone should have mentioned the long term effect with statins especially with people with Parkinson’s.
